Steel Pan Session at AB Phab
Mon 15 Jun 2026
Another fantastic session at our Carnival Costume Mentoring Programme!
Mon 15 Jun 2026On Monday 6 May, we were delighted to deliver an inspiring Steel Pan Workshop in collaboration with AB Phab as part of their Culture and Diversity Day. The event brought together young people to take part in a vibrant programme of creative activities including lantern making, self defence, flag making and henna workshops, all celebrating inclusion, culture and creativity.
The Steel Pan Workshop was a real highlight of the day, with participants fully engaged in learning new musical skills, exploring rhythm and developing their confidence through collaborative music making. It was wonderful to see how quickly they embraced teamwork and expressed themselves through sound and performance.
Steel pan music offers a wide range of developmental benefits, supporting concentration, numeracy, literacy, coordination and wellbeing, while also promoting joy and positive mental health. The instrument itself carries deep cultural significance, with its origins rooted in innovation, recycling and sustainability, making it a powerful symbol of resilience and creativity.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the young people who took part for their enthusiasm and energy, as well as to the staff at AB Phab for their dedication in delivering such a well organised and meaningful event. Special thanks also go to the Steel Pan Agency for delivering engaging sessions and creating an uplifting atmosphere throughout the day.
This project was made possible with support from The National Lottery through Arts Council England.
