Cultural Halloween returns in 2027
Fri 16 Oct 2026Kwéyòl Heritage Month celebration connects residents with health support, Caribbean culture and community.
UKON joined residents and community organisations at Barking Learning Centre for a special event bringing together health, heritage and community during Kwéyòl Heritage Month.
The event gave residents access to valuable health advice and health checks, with further assessments available where needed. Informative seminars also helped visitors learn more about their health and wellbeing and the support available to them.
Alongside the health activities, the occasion celebrated the cultures and traditions of Dominica and Saint Lucia. Colourful displays, lively performances, Caribbean food and refreshments created a welcoming atmosphere, while stalls showcased and sold a range of Kwéyòl products.
The celebration offered visitors the chance to learn, connect and recognise the richness and diversity of Caribbean culture during the Black History Month season.
Music was central to the day, with DJ Shyby delivering a selection of Kwéyòl music that filled Barking Learning Centre with infectious Caribbean rhythms and brought the celebration to life.
UKON praised the warm welcome from staff, stallholders and everyone involved in the event. Special thanks were extended to Barking Learning Centre, the participating health services, The Village and Parisse Devaux for creating an occasion that placed community wellbeing and Caribbean heritage at its heart.
For UKON, the event showed how health information, culture and learning can work together to strengthen community connections and create a shared space for celebration.
