UKON had the honour and privilege of attending the Traditional Ole Mas Competition, a historical and vital celebration in the tradition of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. This year was truly exceptional, with many traditional mas characters using their performances to comment on contemporary and modern issues, showing how Carnival remains a powerful platform for storytelling and reflection. ![]()

We also learnt something new about the Seminole Horse, a traditional mas character symbolising strength, freedom, and resilience. This insight will inspire our work back in London, especially as we plan for Barking and Dagenham Carnival. ![]()

The Ampi Theatre, a key cultural landmark in Port of Spain, provided the perfect backdrop to experience the artistry, colour, and energy of this event. While our images capture only a glimpse, they cannot fully express the beauty, passion, and vibrancy we witnessed firsthand. ![]()

We are immensely grateful to everyone keeping these traditions alive and for allowing us to learn, celebrate, and be inspired. ![]()
