Thursdays at John Smith House was an incredible day at our Carnival Costume Mentoring Programme, as budding carnival artists and costume makers came together in full creative force to continue their preparations for the Barking and Dagenham Carnival, taking place on Saturday, 12th July in Barking Town Square.
This week’s focus was on braiding and adding gems, and the room was absolutely brimming with joy, colour, and enthusiasm! It was truly inspiring to see so much talent and teamwork in action; the atmosphere was electric!
Our Children’s Fun Club was alive with imagination as young creatives explored their artistic flair, with glitter, fabric, and feathers flying everywhere in the best possible way! The group has gelled so beautifully, with more experienced artists generously supporting and mentoring those just beginning their carnival journey.
Ukon were especially honoured to welcome back Kathleene and Jennifer, two professional carnival artists, who returned to share their incredible knowledge and expertise. Their presence brought an extra sparkle to the day, and their guidance was hugely appreciated by everyone involved.
A huge well done to everyone who took part, the hard work and dedication are truly shaping something spectacular for the big day. We can’t wait to see these amazing costumes come to life on the road!
Let the countdown to Barking and Dagenham Carnival 2025 begin!
